The Ultimate Travel Checklist..

Hey everyone! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend! Once again the weather is pretty shit in Vancouver so I haven’t left the apartment yet today! The weather seems to be clearing up so I may get outside for a quick run! My chirpractor gave the me thumbs up on starting to run outdoors again.. 3 min run, 1 in walk for a max of like 20 minutes.. kinda sucks but I have to start somewhere!

I had such an awesome response from my last post so I thought Id nerd out a bit and send you my Travel Checklist! Again I know its kind of lame but its the best way to ensure you don’t forget anything important and also stops you from bringing a bunch of shit you don’t need.

Whether you rarely travel or you are a seasoned globetrotter it’s always helpful to have a checklist!

  1. Decide what kind of luggage you are going to use. This is important because whether you check your luggage or carry it on will make a huge difference in terms of what you can pack. If you are going to check your luggage it does allow you the freedom to pack a little morebut that’s not necessary a good thing! Sometimes the bigger the bag the more shit you bring.. Also most airlines these days do charge you for checked luggage so if you are on a budget it may be best to pack light and just carry it on..
  2. Once you have decided on your “main luggage” you can start to make a list of what you want/need to pack. Here is my list for Mexico!
    1. Clothing List
      • Undies/bras
      • Shorts
      • Basic tanks/t-shirts
      • Cover up for the beach
      • Bikini & One Piece (I usually pack quite a few, I like options)
      • Shoes (Be practical) – flip-flops, nice sandals, converse, wedge heels, runners
      • 1 pair of jeans (boyfriend cut)
      • Skirts
      • Dresses
      • Blouses
      • Sweater
      • Denim Jacket
      • Socks (if needed)
      • Work out clothes (if you plan on working out.. be realistic)
      • Hat
      • Bandana
      • Sunglasses
      • Jewellary (leave anything super valuable at home)
    2. Toiletries
      • Toothbrush, floss, toothpaste, mouthwash, Invisalign retainer
      • Hair Brush, scrunchies, bobby pins, elastic bands
      • Deodorant
      • Shampoo/ Conditioner
      • Face wipes, cleanser, toner, moisturizer
      • Makeup & Makeup brushes
      • Body Lotion
      • Lip Balm
      • Any medication, personal hygiene products
      • Razors
      • Body Wash
    3. Travel Health
      • Advil, Tylenol
      • Pepto, gravol
      • Vitamins & Supplements
      • Probiotics
      • Sunscreen (toxic free)
      • Bug Spray(toxic free)
      • Gaba (anti anxiety)
  3. Prepare your Carry-on bag. If you are checking your main luggage here is where you can decide what you would like to bring in your carry. I would suggest packing a few extra personal items in case your checked luggage gets lost.. Also pack your laptop, camera, or anything with value in your carry on.  I usually a make sure I have headphones and my phone charger on me as well.
  4. Important travel documents, cash, and credit cards.
    • Passport/visa (make a copy) – Make sure your travel documents are valid!
    • Personal ID Card (if you look young like me (LOL) you could get ID when out.. dont carry your passport around)
    • Cash & Credit Card – Make sure you call your CC company to let them know you are leaving the country!
    • Purchase MEDICAL INSURANCE! – This is an important one.. Give yourself peace of mind…
    • Edocs, hotel & flights confirmations, etc…
  5. Prepare your home. If you are going to be away for more than a few days its always good to think about these things.
    • Turn off heater
    • Unplug appliances
    • Advise a trusted neighbour
    • Advise your landlord if you are a tenant
    • Leave a key with a family member or trusted neighbour
  6. Last but not least my Flamingo floatie and new bluetooth speak from @WestJet Vacations!

So there you have it. I’m sure you can add a few more things to this list but this pretty much will have you covered! If I forgot anything important.. comment below!

5 things to help you prep for vaca!

She said Hola, ¿Cómo estás?! In just 18 days this is what I will be saying the second I touch town in Vallarta! I have been posting about this vaca for a few weeks now so as you can probably guess I am a lil bit excited! I haven’t been on a “real” vacation in two years! YES TWO YEARS!! I have gone on a few weekend getaways to Whistler or added couple of days on to a work trip but I am finally going away for more than a few days.. I will be in Vallarta for 10 days and will be out of the office for 14! (SOOO EXCITED!!!)

Up until a few years ago I was one of those people who would legit pack the night before a trip. I always ended up bringing shit I didn’t need and forgetting the shit I did need.. So now I like to “adult” and try to prep myself well in advance.. I figured since I am getting myself prepared I would share it with all of you for your next vaca!

  1. Online shop in advance! After my last post I think you know I have already got this one covered. Don’t wait until the last-minute to buy the things you want or need! Make sure you give yourself enough time for delivery, trying on and returning if need be..
  2. Plan your outfits! There is nothing worse than bringing a whole bunch of different clothes and then when you go to put an outfit together nothing works.. Try to plan at least one outfit per night with a few back ups just in case something doesn’t work. I also suggest bringing items you can style differently and wear more than once if necessary.. Planning your outfits also ensures you don’t over pack!
  3. Make a list. I know this seems kind of lame.. but nothing feels quite as good as checking an item of a list right?? Also it ensures that you don’t forget anything important.. like your PASSPORT!
  4. Always bring extras in your carry-on! I learned this lesson the hard way! I’ll never forget arriving in Vallarta on NYE.. waiting for my bag to come out and nothing.. I was without luggage for 3 days! Yes, you can always go shop (and i love to shop) but depending on where you are travelling selections of stores may be slim.. I always suggest packing an extra pair of panties, a bikini, toothbrush, and an extra set of clothes…
  5. Feel good about not being in the office. I know this one seems a little strange but the worst thing you can do is not get something done at work and then stress the entire time you are away.. I am the worst at disconnecting.. I always check my work emails in case I forgot something.. but this time I have done as much preparing as possible so I can leave for two weeks and actually get a much-needed time out. Also if you do forget something don’t sweat it.. unless you are a Doctor.. no one will die..

So there are my top 5 things I do to prep for vacation.. what do you do? Am I forgetting anything?? would love to hear from you!

life

It’s that time of year…

WOAH, what a year! As I sit here, sipping my coffee, I cant help but smile and laugh to myself at the same time. 2017 has been a pretty interesting year for me..  I like to think of it as a transition year..

I started the year off with the intent of doing my very own Happiness Project. Each month I would set a goal/resolution/intention and then “tackle” that goal or whatever you want to call it. After 2 or 3 months I quit! It wasn’t making me feel happy at all, if anything I was kind of miserable and felt like I was putting all this pressure on myself to be happy.

So, I quit my happiness project and then shit went a little sideways… Because I failed at being happy I started to think about my life, how I wasn’t where I “should” be and then started to question every aspect of my life.. Just to give you an example (1 out of about 1000 lol).. I decided that I should buy a condo in the burbs.. I started looking at condos, then just as quikly I talked myself out of it because it was like what if I hate the burbs.. So then I found a place to rent but the second I signed the lease I started to second guess if it was the right decision.. this is literally how I spent the next 4 months!

If I had to choose 1 word to describe those 4 months it would be LOST.. I was totally lost and didn’t know what I wanted.

I am the first one to admit that my mind is my biggest enemy and I knew that I had to do something because I was on a path of self-destruction.. So in September I made the decision to smarten the FUCK up and take control of my mind. I read “The Universe has your back” and started to have all of these “ahhh” moments. Everything in the book is common sense.. however for me it was not common practise.. Reading the book made me aware of my actions and now because I am aware I can stop myself before I act or react to certain situations. It doesn’t always work but hey at least I am trying!

So, for the past four months that is what it has been all about.. Learning to control my thoughts and actions.  At the end of the day the only thing we can control is ourselves..

Going into 2018 I don’t have a BIG list of resolutions or goals.. my one intention for the year and for the rest of my years is to get out of my comfort zone..  and for me that means to let go of all that pressure I put on myself, to LET IT BE and to Trust that the Universe has my back…

May your 2018 be filled with everything your heart desires..

stuck in a rut….

IMG_0693Happy Saturday!

Its been 10 days since my last post. I have been so busy with work that by the time I get home the last thing I want to do is pick up my laptop and write. Since I’m having a very lazy Saturday morning I decided that I would take a few minutes to write…

I have always been really good about having a pretty balanced personal/work lifestyle but the last few weeks my job has literally consumed me. To the point where the other day I told Darryl that maybe I should just quit my job and go work somewhere with no responsibilities!

Now don’t get me wrong, I love what I do for a living but every so often I have these moments where I cant help but think.. “Is this it?, Is this the life for me? Living in the suburbs, taking the train downtown every day, working 8 hrs, taking the train back home, going to the gym, making dinner, watching a bit of TV, going to sleep and then repeat’… I am exhausted just thinking about it..

In one of my first posts I mentioned how I used to live in Mexico but what I didn’t say was that I was pretty much a glorified beach bum. My “job” was as an Activities Coordinator in a resort. I was paid to socialize, play tequila volleyball, lead water aerobics and then take our guests out to the clubs at night.. On days days like today I would love to be that same carefree 25-year-old living off of $600 a month and where my biggest problem was being tired because I “had” to take the guests to the bar the night before…..

So, as I wrote that last sentence, I would love to be that same carefree 25-year-old.. I started to laugh to myself.. because I know I am that same person just an older, wiser, more responsible version..

And this, my friends, is why I write..

Some times you just need to write it, read it out loud and then let the reality of it all set in.. “This life is what you make it”.. I have allowed the stress of life to consume me..  I have allowed myself to get super caught up and stressed with work.. no one else just ME! So, now that Im done having my little pity party and have come to this realization I am going to let go of all that stress and enjoy this day..

I encourage all of you to do the same! Namaste!

Relax Refresh Recharge

image1-5So, I just got back from an awesome 3 days away in Whistler. I always forget how lucky I am to live so close to a place that is filled with so much beauty!

D and I had plans to go out and let loose on Sunday night but instead we found ourselves back in our hotel room by 9! We decided to have a quick night-cap but in the time it took for me to pour a glass of wine he was fast asleep. So, I enjoyed my wine & off to sleep I went.

On Monday, we decided to make the most of our day. We walked around the village, patio hopped, and ended the day in the hot tub. It was perfect! I’ve been super stressed with work, so a few days of doing nothing was exactly what I needed.. It was so great to relax and recharge before this crazy month of October kicks in.

I took a few photos throughout the day yesterday and thought I would share them with you! Hope you enjoy!

Give a girl the right pair of shoes..

Happy Sunday!

image1-2I know I have probably mentioned this once or twice before but in case you missed it I will say it again. I am obsessed with shoes and have been since I was little girl. My mom said that when I was little I would sleep with any new pair of shoes I got. I no longer sleep with my shoes but I am still just as much obsessed.

I have a lot of girlfriends that love to spend their hard-earned money on expensive bags or clothes but as much as I love a nice bag or an item of clothing I rarely spend over $150 on one single thing.. NOW shoes are totally different! I would pretty much spend my entire pay check on a pair of shoes if I could and trust me when I say there have been many moments where I actually think “F*CK my responsibilities”

Well, with that being said because I am a semi-responsible adult I have been trying to find some great deals and I was super excited when I found these OTK boots at Call It Spring. I was out shopping with Darryl when I spotted these lovelies from across the room. I was trying to give him my full attention since we were shoe shopping for him but I couldn’t stop staring at these boots. I didn’t leave the store with the boots that day because D told me I didn’t need another pair of OTK boots but let’s be honest what does he know about needing a pair of boots. So the second I got home I got online and bought them! They may not be the most practical and I may not wear them often but they were only $109 & they look super hot , so in my mind they were well worth it!

I’m wearing a size 6 so they are pretty accurate in sizing as I usually wear a 5 or 6 depending on the shoe.

Food

Happiness is hot soup on a rainy day

image1-17Happy Sunday!

Today has been one of the most chills days ever and I have loved every second of it. Started the day grocery shopping with my mom and then spent the rest of the day cleaning, baking and making some delicious home-made soup! Oh I should also mention that I have been watching Nashville the entire day! Gosh, I just love that show; am I the only one that cries every single episode?

Anyways, I decided to make vegetable soup this afternoon and can I just say it was sooo delish. I didn’t use a recipe of any sort – just threw in a potato, some carrots, celery, some chicken stock and some water. I let it simmer all afternoon and then puree’d it until it was nice and creamy! I usually make something similar but with red pepper and cauliflower but thought I would change it up today! So happy that I did.

Oh I should also mention that I bought a gorgeous wool coat today.. Love me a RAINY DAY!

Sorry Vancouver…

IMG_2257

I have a confession.. Since the young age of 16 I have been having a love affair, yup that is right I have been cheating on my beautiful city of Vancouver….

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has a BIG piece of my heart.

I can still remember my first time landing in Vallarta.. thinking “WOW, why is it so green? where is the beach?” Shortly after that thought I discovered the beach and instantly fell in love. The people, the beach, the culture.. you name it and I loved it!. I loved it so much that at the age of 22 I decided to pack my bags and move there! For the next 8 years I spent more time in Vallarta than I did in Vancouver. It had become my home. Even when I was technically living in Vancouver I would go back to visit as much as I could.. which was pretty often thanks to Transat, the awesome company I worked for at the time.

My trips have become less frequent but every year when I return my heart and my soul gets a recharge.. I just booked my next trip; Feb 2018 can not come soon enough.. If you have never had the chance to visit Vallarta its a must do.. I promise! You will fall in love with it and all of it’s charm the same way I did all those years ago..

ps. Vallarta, te quiero mucho
