give presence….

image1-4

Hey guys! Happy Friday!

I’m not sure about any of you but this is one of my most fave times of the year. I actually put my Christmas tree up and decorated the apartment on November 13th! D walked in the door and his actual words were “are you fucking kidding me? its November!” haha.. oopsie! Not even sorry!

Anyways, I love everything about this season; holiday parties, holiday outfits, holiday hangovers.. ok, well, maybe I don’t love the hangovers but they are so worth it during this time of the year! There really is nothing better than spending time with family and friends, drinking, laughing and just having the most amazing time!

So with that being said… this holiday season I have decided to do something that is going to be a little difficult for me.. I have decided that I am going to just put down my phone and actually fully engage in conversations and actually take everything in that I love about the holidays.. Now don’t get me wrong.. I’m still going to take photos and post on social media.. but I really want to make a solid effort to not spend all my time looking down at my phone, half ass listening to conversations.. I’m pretty sure you can all admit that you have been guilty of that once or twice before..

So, starting today.. I’m going to make a solid effort to give my presence… and I fully encourage all of you to do the same..

Peace & Love ~ Jos

ps. stay tuned for some of my favourite looks this season

Love yourself…

Workout because you LOVE yourself, not because you HATE your body.

image1-3I have been in a love-hate relationship with my body for as long as I can possibly remember.

I have always been petite/small but not naturally “thin”. Now don’t get me wrong.. I’m not calling myself overweight but I am super curvy and lets just say this was not a trend in the 90s….  In high school and in my early 20s “THIN was in”.. and it really fucked with my head because I was always comparing myself to other girls..

Fast forward 20 years later.. I am a pretty confident 38-year-old woman but I still have these moments where I “hate” my body..  BUT I have FINALLY come to the realization that… “It’s not about being thin or overweight.. it’s about being healthy, both mentally and physically; its about self-love” .. and I try to remind myself of this every time I go to the gym, or I’m out for a run or I’m on a yoga mat… Yes, I want to look good.. but in order to look good, I have to feel good… and in order to feel good.. I have to LOVE MYSELF!

It’s beginning to look a lot like…..

Happy Saturday!

I have been MIA for almost a month now! I know I totally suck at this whole blogging thing  but I promised myself that I would never write or post just because I felt like I “had” to.. if you know what I mean..

Anyways, today I thought I’d share a few items that just arrived from H&M Home! If you have never shopped H&M home I highly suggest you do! They have the most amazing home collection at H&M’s affordable pricing! None of the H&M locations in Vancouver have a home department but that is what the good ol’ internet is for!

As you can see I am getting ready for the holidays! stay tuned for the finished look!

stuck in a rut….

IMG_0693Happy Saturday!

Its been 10 days since my last post. I have been so busy with work that by the time I get home the last thing I want to do is pick up my laptop and write. Since I’m having a very lazy Saturday morning I decided that I would take a few minutes to write…

I have always been really good about having a pretty balanced personal/work lifestyle but the last few weeks my job has literally consumed me. To the point where the other day I told Darryl that maybe I should just quit my job and go work somewhere with no responsibilities!

Now don’t get me wrong, I love what I do for a living but every so often I have these moments where I cant help but think.. “Is this it?, Is this the life for me? Living in the suburbs, taking the train downtown every day, working 8 hrs, taking the train back home, going to the gym, making dinner, watching a bit of TV, going to sleep and then repeat’… I am exhausted just thinking about it..

In one of my first posts I mentioned how I used to live in Mexico but what I didn’t say was that I was pretty much a glorified beach bum. My “job” was as an Activities Coordinator in a resort. I was paid to socialize, play tequila volleyball, lead water aerobics and then take our guests out to the clubs at night.. On days days like today I would love to be that same carefree 25-year-old living off of $600 a month and where my biggest problem was being tired because I “had” to take the guests to the bar the night before…..

So, as I wrote that last sentence, I would love to be that same carefree 25-year-old.. I started to laugh to myself.. because I know I am that same person just an older, wiser, more responsible version..

And this, my friends, is why I write..

Some times you just need to write it, read it out loud and then let the reality of it all set in.. “This life is what you make it”.. I have allowed the stress of life to consume me..  I have allowed myself to get super caught up and stressed with work.. no one else just ME! So, now that Im done having my little pity party and have come to this realization I am going to let go of all that stress and enjoy this day..

I encourage all of you to do the same! Namaste!

Relax Refresh Recharge

image1-5So, I just got back from an awesome 3 days away in Whistler. I always forget how lucky I am to live so close to a place that is filled with so much beauty!

D and I had plans to go out and let loose on Sunday night but instead we found ourselves back in our hotel room by 9! We decided to have a quick night-cap but in the time it took for me to pour a glass of wine he was fast asleep. So, I enjoyed my wine & off to sleep I went.

On Monday, we decided to make the most of our day. We walked around the village, patio hopped, and ended the day in the hot tub. It was perfect! I’ve been super stressed with work, so a few days of doing nothing was exactly what I needed.. It was so great to relax and recharge before this crazy month of October kicks in.

I took a few photos throughout the day yesterday and thought I would share them with you! Hope you enjoy!

How prepared are you?

SERIOUS POST ALERT. How prepared are you for an earthquake or a natural disaster?

After the second earthquake hit Mexico City I actually started to panic a little bit because I was not prepared at all. I got home that night and started asking D all these questions because I legit had no clue what to do if there was ever an earthquake.

I live in a new building so I’ve been told it is safe but still.. Do I have to turn off the gas? Do I have to turn off water? Do I stay in the apartment? Do I go in a doorway? All of these questions were running through my head and it was giving me crazy anxiety so I decided to do some research the next day and here is what I learned!

  • First things first! Make yourself an earthquake kit! I just ran down to my local dollar store and to Safeway to purchase a few items to get me started. You can also purchase a prepared kit. So many options online or in stores
Here is what you will need:

    • Min of 3L of water per day/ per person (3 day supply)
    • 3 day supply of food: Soup(eaten cold), crackers, peanut butter, fruit snacks, nuts, protein powder, canned vegetables, canned fruit, granola bars.
    • First AID Kit: Bandaids, sterile gloves, antibiotic ointment, non prescription drugs (advil, tylenol, tums, etc), thermometer, any prescription drugs
    • Flashlights
    • Batteries
    • Candles
    • Matches & lighter
    • Toilet Paper (remember you cant flush the toilet!)
    • Paper, pencil
    • Cash in small bills, coins
    • Garbage Bags
    • Rope
    • Scissors
    • Change of clothes and shoes (no heels)
  • Next what do I do if I am at home?
    • Drop, Cover and hold! DROP down onto your hands and knees (before the earthquake knocks you down). COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) under a sturdy table or desk. If there is no shelter nearby, only then should you get down near an interior wall (or next to low-lying furniture that won’t fall on you), and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands. HOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops. Be prepared to move with your shelter if the shaking shifts it around.
    • If you are in bed-hold on and stay there, protecting your head with a pillow or blanket. You are less likely to be injured staying where you are.
    • Do not go outside – if you are inside, stay inside!
  • What else should I do to get prepared?
    • Get to know your neighbours
    • Make sure you insurance covers earthquakes (mine does)

These are just a few things to better prepare yourself if there is ever an earthquake. I still have a lot to learn but thought this at least was a good start! I hope this quick list can help you become better prepared!

fresa: not your average strawberry

images
Happy Monday friends! Hope you all had a great weekend. I took a bad fall a few weeks ago so I have legit been horizontal for days!! It has been pretty shitty but I’m using the time to write and rest so instead of pouting and feeling sorry for myself trying to make the most of my time!
Anyways, I have had a few people reach out to me asking me what does fresa.living mean? So I thought I would fill you guys in.
Well, fresa is a nickname that was given to me when I was living in Mexico and although the meaning isn’t necessarily nice or true it’s a nickname that has kind of stuck with me throughout the years.. Fresa literally means strawberry in Spanish but in Mexico “fresa” is a term used for a preppy person. Fresa’s are usually stuck up, have expensive clothes, are above middle class and talk differently than everyone else..
I can still remember when someone first called me fresa and I was like huh what are you talking about?.. why are you calling me a strawberry.. and then they explained themselves and I was like WOAH that’s not very nice and pretty far from the truth. They then it explained its just because I talked a little different and I wore nice clothes, not because I was stuck up..
so there you have it.. fresa.living is my nickname combined with my lifestyle.. if you ever have any other questions or would like to know any else about me just let me know.. Im a pretty open book!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.

By Friday, my hair is 90% dry shampoo.

FreshHair_website

Yup, you read that right! I only wash my hair once or twice a week! You might be thinking eww gross especially because I work out almost every day but honestly I don’t have much of a choice. I really wish I could wash my hair every day but I don’t have time for that and it’s also not good for my hair! I wasn’t blessed with beautiful wash and go type hair. I was “blessed” with hair that is a lil curly, a lil straight and a whole lot of frizzy! So that is why I have to rely on dry shampoo.

Back in the day I used to use baby powder; I would just sprinkle that shit everywhere and the entire bathroom would be covered in white! I am pretty happy that those days are long gone. Now the only struggle I have is trying to find the best dry shampoo out there!

I’ve tried quite a few different brands but so far here are my faves!

  1. Kevin Murphy – Fresh Hair $29-$35
  2. Moroccan Oil- Dry Shampoo Dark Tones $29
  3. Lush – No Drought $9
  4. Bastiste – Original $6.99 at Winners!

moroccon

So there you have it.. this is what I use to save myself from having to wash and straighten my hair on the daily! I’m currently using Moroccan oil Dark tones but always open to new recommendations let me know your faves!

Sorry Vancouver…

IMG_2257

I have a confession.. Since the young age of 16 I have been having a love affair, yup that is right I have been cheating on my beautiful city of Vancouver….

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has a BIG piece of my heart.

I can still remember my first time landing in Vallarta.. thinking “WOW, why is it so green? where is the beach?” Shortly after that thought I discovered the beach and instantly fell in love. The people, the beach, the culture.. you name it and I loved it!. I loved it so much that at the age of 22 I decided to pack my bags and move there! For the next 8 years I spent more time in Vallarta than I did in Vancouver. It had become my home. Even when I was technically living in Vancouver I would go back to visit as much as I could.. which was pretty often thanks to Transat, the awesome company I worked for at the time.

My trips have become less frequent but every year when I return my heart and my soul gets a recharge.. I just booked my next trip; Feb 2018 can not come soon enough.. If you have never had the chance to visit Vallarta its a must do.. I promise! You will fall in love with it and all of it’s charm the same way I did all those years ago..

xo Jos

ps. Vallarta, te quiero mucho
